I’m So Tired of the Alleged iPhone4.0 Story
Okay, I get it. Allegedly stupid dude at allegedly annoying blog allegedly fucks up big time and may be singing the felony blues someday soon. Shut up about it. Worse shit of vastly greater import happens every day.
The real reason so many people in the Apple-sphere are raging at Chen/Gizmodo is that they’re royally disappointed that he ruined the big iPhone 4.0 surprise. Santa Claus’s visit has been spoiled this time around.
That’s why they want Chen to roast: because he broke the 4th wall of the theater of hype enacted by the tech blogosphere, speculating on Apple’s next product in Act 1, and Apple, with its secrecy leading to the eventual unveiling in Act 2. He tore back the veil early and ruined the play for everybody. But it’s the same play we’ve seen so many times, and if you’re not a ticket-holder (iPhone owner), it amounts to trivia, anyway.
The odor of sour grapes is particularly strong with those bloggers who usually corner the predictions market (I’m looking at you, McGruber), who have now lost weeks of speculation traffic to Chen’s chincy anti-stevenote.
If Apple wasn’t paying these people from their marketing budget before, they certainly should consider paying them now.
