Only Fascists and Terrorists Practice Torture, or Two Degrees of Nazi Germany
Andrew Sullivan linked to a number of posts on “stress positions” used in the war on Bushie’s enemies:
Stress Positions, Stress Positions and Crucifixion, and Stress Positions 2.
The piece about crucifixion had some statements I wanted to get some background on (relating to nails and wrists), so I looked up crucifixtion on wikipedia. Needless to say, if you’re not too queasy or eating lunch, this makes for spell-binding reading. Especially when they start talking about breaking people’s legs to “end” their suffering during crucifixion.
Crucifixtion is closely related to impalement, the description of which sounds even worse, if you can believe that. Blunt poles, special incisions, and up to three days of surviving it — insanity.
Both forms of execution/torture have links to decapitation, as another form of execution. Decapitation, you would think, is a horrible way to die, until you’ve read about impalement, at which point decapitation seems tame, and you start to think, hey, It’s right up their with the humanity of lethal injection.
In any event, decapitation is a form of torture/murder/execution practiced by terrorists in Iraq and elsewhere.
And if you looked at both Sullivan’s posts about Stress Positions, you know the second links to an article about strappado, or “Palestinian hanging,” which:
… is best known for its use in the Medieval Inquisition and has since been used by the governments of Turkey, Nazi Germany and the United States of America.
So we’re mentioned in the same breath as Nazi Germany, and our methods are along the same chain of methods as the terrorists we’re trying to fight. Lovely.
Can there be a greater national shame?
