Can Coulter Play a “Sincere” Coulter? Or Is there only One Coulter?

A lot of sources have linked to stories or videos about how Ann Coulter says she’d vote Clinton over McCain (here’s Feministe). I don’t watch a lot of Coulter — I try to ignore her — so it’s hard for me to tell how serious she is (if she ever is serious). And perhaps the whole sentiment was sparked by trying to form some kind of Coulteresque acid-coated, broken-glass-toned argument about how un-Conservative the monster McCain is.

But I’ve been thinking that maybe this is one instance — perhaps the first instance — in a long, long, uncouth and ultracynical career that she has had a sincere belief. I think she may honestly, deep down in her shriveled, black, heart-of-hearts, hope to see a woman in office. I think that it’s been so long since she’s expressed an honest, uncynical, sincere thought that she doesn’t really know how to do it.

I just don’t get a sense that she’s got that “I’m just being as caustic as I can to fuck with you” smirk that I think I’ve seen before. I think she wants to see one of her own, a powerful, intelligent woman in office of President of the United States.

This is all predicated, of course, on whether she’s really a woman, but I’ll leave that argument up to somebody else.
