Wikipedia infographic of the day: the difference between amplitude and frequency modulation. This is really basic, but I never considered the obvious question, how does a wave carry information? until I saw this. I kind of wish my old physics textbook had GIFs, but alas, they don’t carry over very well to paper.
Actually you could represent this perfectly well on paper by illustrating 3-4 cycles together just like this GIF does with two cycles. I’m sure every modern math book has illustrations like this one. (Reposting this here for DM because I was just trying to explain this to her the other day — the meaning of and difference between amplitude and frequency modulation — as part of an explanation of the conceptual difference between digital and analog.)
