After US Supreme Court Justice Scalia commented dismissively about “Internet tracking” and privacy issues, law professor Joel Reidenberg had his students compile a dossier on Scalia for one of his courses. The dossier came to 15 pages and included all kinds of information.
I think this event is a great form of check and balance on the government. Granted, Scalia is a public figure, and so more public information would be available about him, but it’s a good counter to his privacy position to show him how much a bunch of amateur sleuths can piece together about his life.
Every government official who passes a law or sets a policy should be shown this kind of personal feedback about the effects of their decisions.
